BMW Shark-Fin Antenna Class Action Settlement (X3, X4, X5, X6, X7)

If you own or leased a 2019–2020 BMW X3, X4, X5, X6, or X7, you may be reimbursed for shark-fin antenna water-leak repairs and get a warranty extension. Claim by August 27, 2026.
A proposed settlement resolves a lawsuit accusing BMW of North America of selling model-year 2019–2020 X3, X4, X5, X6, and X7 SUVs with a roof-mounted “shark-fin” antenna whose seal could fail, letting water reach the telematics unit and other electronics underneath. BMW disputes the claim but agreed to settle rather than keep litigating it, and a federal judge in New Jersey has granted the deal preliminary approval.
The settlement is open to current and former owners or lessees of a covered SUV built between November 2018 and March 2020 with the shark-fin antenna fitted. Anyone who already paid to fix the sealing defect can seek reimbursement, and BMW has separately stretched the warranty on the affected part to 10 years or 120,000 miles.
Who's Covered, and What You Can Get
Coverage follows the vehicle, not the current title — if you owned or leased a qualifying SUV at the time of a sealing-defect repair, you can still claim even if you've since sold it. Two separate benefits are on offer: reimbursement of money already spent, and free future repairs under the extended warranty. A BMW-dealer repair is reimbursed in full with no cap; an independent shop's bill is reimbursed up to $2,000. Either way, the vehicle has to have been under 10 years old or 120,000 miles when the repair happened, and any reimbursement is reduced by whatever a dealer, insurer, or service contract already covered.
Filing a Claim
This is a documentation settlement, so proof matters. Claimants log in with the Class Member ID from their mailed notice and submit records showing where the repair happened, the vehicle's VIN and model year, the mileage at the time, an itemized cost breakdown, and proof of payment such as a receipt or statement. Claims can be filed online through the official settlement site or mailed in as a paper form, and the administrator gives claimants 30 days to fix any missing paperwork before a final decision.

Doing nothing keeps you in the class but forfeits any reimbursement and releases related claims against BMW. Excluding yourself by the opt-out deadline preserves the right to sue separately, but forgoes this settlement's benefits. Payments go out only after final approval and any appeals are resolved.
Watch Out for Scams
File only through the official settlement website. A legitimate administrator never charges a fee to submit a claim and never asks for unrelated financial details to “release” a payment. If someone contacts you about this settlement, check any link against the official site before entering information, and use the settlement site's own contact form for questions about a lost notice rather than replying to an unsolicited message.
